Tony Eccleston

Founder & Managing Partner

Tony founded Marlborough with a mission to add significant value to our clients by delivering a powerful fusion of outstanding digital, transformation and leadership capabilities. 
 

He specialises in working with Business & Digital leaders and their teams to drive outstanding business & customer value and brings an amazing track record of Marlborough success across sectors and business situations.
 

Tony is currently mentor to leaders including FTSE 100 Global CIO’s, Global CDO’s and scale up organisations. 
 

Prior to Marlborough, Tony was a UK Top 50 CIO before being promoted to the Board of a €10 Billion Business with DHL Express, (leading > 1000 IT staff, ½ Billion Budget). He also brings experience as an EY Partner, a Gartner Vice President, and a global and cross-functional leader with GSK, having an early career in technical roles as an IT graduate with Shell.
 

He holds a MSc. in Information Management (with distinction).

 

 

 

Stephen Carroll

Partner

Stephen has over 25 years’ experience driving business performance improvement.
 

He brings a rare mix of skills and experience spanning cyber, risk, audit, transformation and service improvement. Stephen receives outstanding feedback from clients for his contribution to their results, building high performance teams and ‘winning hearts & minds’ along the journey.
 

Stephen brings significant international experience across sectors including as a Director with EY and complemented by an impressive career with Crowe and Arthur Andersen, gaining a strong foundation across IT Advisory, Technology, Risk and Audit.
 

He holds an MBA Manchester Business School, with professional qualifications including Certified Information Systems Auditor, Certified Information Security Manager, SANS cyber qualifications and Certified in Enterprise Governance of IT. He is also a certified Agile Scrum Master and a Certified Accountant (ACCA).


 

James Mottram

Partner

James is a highly accomplished advisor and transformation leader, with over 20 years' leadership experience and a passion for delivering outstanding business results from technology and data.


He brings critical business change, digital, strategy, commercial and innovation expertise to every Marlborough engagement to achieve positive impact to customer experience, profitability, operational performance, market results, risk and cost reduction.

James brings significant digital leadership experience including as Global CIO RES, Group CIO Balfour Beatty, Vice President Information Management Transport for London.

James holds a degree in Engineering and Business Systems from the University of Warwick.

We recognise the importance of addressing climate change to reduce the significant threat posed to society, nature, the economy and future generations.  We all have an important role to play and are proud to have committed to the United Nations Race to Zero campaign and the UK Government’s sponsored Climate Commitment, with an objective to reach net-zero by 2030.

We’re already a lean organisation and striving to be even more so whilst continuing to delight our customers.

As a reference point on our journey, in 2022, our carbon intensity per person was 47% lower than a ‘big 4’ consultancy who have published their Emissions per employee (tCO2e/FTE). 

Carbon Reduction Plan

We manage our commitment to reduce emissions further aligned with our Carbon Reduction Plan focused on reducing our carbon intensity in parallel with our growth as a business.

Residual Emissions

Any residual emissions are offset, and in 2023 we have offset our total 2022 emissions by 200%, and will continue to do so, confirming our carbon negative position.

  • Our team has significant leadership and practitioner experience across business situations and sectors including Digital Transformation, Cyber Risk Mitigation, Strategy Refresh, Globalisation, M&A, Scale Up, Transforming Sustainability, Cost and Efficiency, Improving Customer Centricity & Profitable Growth.
  • Board/Senior management experience includes directly leading over 1000 staff and > 1/2 Billion Budget accountability.
  • The majority of our team hold a Masters Degree (MBA or MSc.) 
  • We have qualifications and subject matter expertise in areas key to maximising business value from technology and risk mitigation including Strategy and Planning, Information & Data Management, Cyber Security (ISACA, SANS), Key Practices for Sustainable Results (Agile, Scrum, DevOps, PRINCE2, ITIL, CMMI), Target Operating Model, Architecture, Process Improvement.

  • We support our customers across the UK and Internationally across Europe and US.
  • Our HQ is in Richmond (Surrey) with capabilities across London/ Southeast, Manchester and Dublin.
